My favourite boots.

The "not really a blog" blog. And a chance to win an iPad2

My brother John is a very hard worker. You may believe that Brix Workwear became the 4th largest workwear store in Monaghan due to the magic of pixies, but no, in actual fact it was largely down to the very long hours that John has put in loading product, answering queries , analysing , analysing and more analysing. Me, I just have a bit of craic writing the blog. This has recently led to a few grumbles from John about what the purpose of this blog is and how , by any stretch of my imagination, is it contributing , in any practical, or more importantly, monetary sense to the success of Brix.

That is the problem.

I was writing it purely from a " preaching to a captive audience" viewpoint. And trying , ever so hard, to inject a little humour into the otherwise staid world of workwear. It also served to replace my therapist, ( sorry Margaret ), highlight my incredibly brilliant musical tastes and , on occassion highlight some good works by great people like Marcus Child, Tom Hill, Richard Moore of Water for Life, or Chris Brogan.

It has saved Gerry's job, raised money for charity, and got some great laughs from customer comments and answers to our questions.

But none of this is satisfying John's lust for third place in the highly competitive workwear market in Monaghan.

"What if I write about something relating to work boots ?" I asked.

"Only if you keep it sensible, and include something on safety boots too." He ordered.

"Baby steps John. Baby steps."

So , where was I ? Oh yes, my favourite boots.

In my long and varied career in the footwear game I have dealt with and worn many different brands and styles of workboots. From Dr.Martens safety boots back in the 80's to Caterpillar safety boots in the 90's to , eventually the new millenium and the revolutionary Haix safety boots. This pair, the Haix Montana hunting boot is my current favourite :

Haix Montana boots

This pair of boots have been on many adventures with me this past 18 months. Together we have walked the beach at Gyles quay, walked up Slieve Donard with friends, stood in the pouring rain at the sideline of my kids football matches and through last winters snow and ice we bravely walked the roads together. Oddly , for a pair of hunting boots, the one thing that I haven't done in them is any hunting.

They are made in Germany by Haix, have beautiful leather , a 2 year guarantee and Gore-Tex lining to keep out the water, wind, snow and anything else that nature cares to throw at them....

They are actually like slippers !

What is your favourite pair of boots ?
