Post Hoc Ergo Proctor Hoc......( Freebie Friday #11 )
Earlier this week I saw a tweet from our good friend Hughie the Buck from What Feckin Workwear where he quoted a line my the wonderful Donna from the classic series The West Wing when she discussed with Josh an old Irish American politician Fishhooks McCarthy was a real person , lived in New York, and like all good Irish Americans was very devout. Every morning on his way to work he would stop at St. James chuch , light a candle and say this prayer :
" O Lord, give me health and strength. We'll steal the rest."
Not the worst prayer I imagine that was ever said in St.James, or any other church for that matter...
Anyway , it struck a chord , it being Easter Week, and also reminded me what a great show the West Wing was to boot. They once had an episode which was perhaps the only time that a US prime time show had a Latin phrase as it's title - " Post hoc ergo proctor hoc".Roughly translated it means " After this, therefore, because of this" , and is used to describe a false cause, this happened therefore that happened....newspapers are full of it at the moment.
Anyway, as it is Easter we are going to do a different Freebie Friday today. For the best comment/answer on this blog today , Good Friday, we will donate €100 to Concern a great Irish charity that does a lot of amazing work throughout the world in your name.
So, today's question is : " What is your favourite meal, and why , in a traditional Fish & Chip" shop ?
Years ago Fr.Brian Darcy used to play clips of children from Dublin telling bible stories on Good Friday, I always loved this one for two reasons , the title " Give up yer oul sins" and the question " are you a good man or a shocking Holy Saint ?"
So , just remains to wish you all a great and funky EASTER !!!
Cheers,
Paul
P.S. Today I am listening to Blind Melon - There's no rain ( with apologies to Robert in Belfast where there is , in fact , rain ).
